Dans la lignée de ses oeuvres collectives précédentes, Some Hope for the Bastards déploie une série de segments en dialogue, alternant duos et mouvements de groupe. C’est une sombre fête qui se trame sur scène, irriguée par une tension sous-terraine et insistante. Les neuf danseurs, en équilibre parfait entre maîtrise et fragilité, cherchent farouchement la lumière au travers de leurs peurs et de la noirceur d’un siècle sans issue. Ces hommes et ces femmes encaissent les coups, s’empoignent et se scrutent avec un apparent détachement. Dans cette oscillation entre combat et abandon, les corps résistent, mus par une pulsation intérieure irrépressible : le seul espoir qui reste pour ces bâtards.
For almost fifteen years, Frédérick Gravel has been shaking up the Montreal scene through his rebellious and sexy creative process. Along the lines of his previous collective works, Some Hope for the Bastards deploys a series of segments in the form of dialogues, alternating duos and group pieces. It is a dark party that unfolds on stage, irrigated by a constant subterranean and insistent tension. The nine dancers, in perfect balance between mastery and fragility, search desperately for the light through their fears and the darkness of a century without a way out. These women and these men take blows, grab each other and scrutinize each other with apparent detachment. In this oscillation between fighting and giving up, the bodies resist, possessed by an irrepressible interior fire: the only hope left for these bastards.
